| The Gurley Model 100 Reconnoissance transit was introduced in 1887. This particular units lack of a serial number and apparently hand-engraved Gurley logo would tend to support the idea that it was manufactured prior to 1900. It is small in stature with a 9" telescope (20x) and an overall height of approximately 12 inches. The horizontal circle is read by vernier to 1-minute (vertical circle 5-minutes). The compass has a 3-1/2 inch needle. This fine vintage instrument is in excellent shape for its age, with no missing components (crosshair is present and vials are unbroken). It has a marvelous patina and its size makes it perfect for display. It is pictured as we received it; included in the price, we will completely clean and service the instrument, and restore the circles. We recommend NOT polishing the brass.
