There aren't many products available today that you can say have remained virtually unchanged for decades, but this is one of them! Originally patented in 1894, the Brunton name has become synomynous with professional compasses. The U.S. military has used the Brunton Pocket transit for many years (called the M2, it is graduated in MILS). Relatively modern refinements include the declination adjustment, and the addition of the "lift mechanism", which locks the needle securely in place when the compass lid is closed. This is an extremely versatile tool, designed to perform many chores for geologists, foresters, surveyors, miners, and engineers. Price includes a genuine leather case. A synthetic-cased version (Compro) is also available for a bit less, but we like sticking with the original!
